Pursuant to Public Act 93-0333, effective January 1, 2004, any insurer licensed and doing business in this State shall research and report to the Department information regarding policies issued to slaveholders for death or damage of their slaves that it wrote either directly or through a predecessor corporation during the slavery era.
The Department is substantially following the model set by California for reporting requirements.
A copy of the report format is enclosed. Responses to sections (1), (2) and (3), indicating whether or not your company or a predecessor company did or did not insure slaves, is due no later than April 15, 2004. Responses to these sections should be mailed, faxed or emailed to:
