| Subject: | Edit Program for Cost Containment data reports (CB 97-9) |
Enclosed is the new version of the edit program that is to be used by your company to check for errors in your Illinois Cost Containment data reports. This version is to be used with the November 30, 1997 data call and replaces the edit program used for the November 30, 1996 data call.
A new feature of this edit program is the "edit check code" which will appear on your computer screen after you have run your data through this program, indicating that your data are free of errors. This code (called "E-C number") is unique to each individual company and will only appear when all of your data are correct. You must record this edit check code on each data diskette you submit to the Department of Insurance. Beginning this year, the Department will not accept any data diskettes without this edit check code.
If errors exist in your data, this edit check program will create an ASCII text file named "ERRORS.TXT" which lists by record all of the errors discovered. You can read this file using any text editor or text processor.
It is important that you check your data before submitting it to the Department. The purpose of the edit program is to improve the timelines and accuracy of data reported to our Department.
Also, this version of the edit program has been updated to accept the "premium-only" data, which is a new requirement for the 1997 data call (ref. the Cost Containment Form and Data Reporting Requirements-Illinois Register Part 4202).
All questions regarding the above, or requests for additional copies of the program, should be directed to Vicki Wasik of the Cost Containment Section at 217-785-2228.
Respectfully yours,
Glen Morrow, Data Manager
Illinois Department of Insurance
