Department Suspends License of Rockford Area Physician

CHICAGO , IL –The Illinois Division of Professional Regulation has suspended the licenses of physician Bruce Elliott Greenfield, M.D. to practice medicine and prescribe controlled substances. In the order signed by Daniel E. Bluthardt, Acting Director of the Division of Professional Regulation, the Department found evidence that Greenfield had prescribed large quantities of controlled substances to a patient.

Following an investigation, conducted jointly by IDFPR and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the Department filed a complaint showing that Dr. Greenfield prescribed almost 3,000 doses of controlled medication to one individual during a two year time period. During that time, Greenfield was intimately involved with the patient.

Dr. Greenfield's license is suspended pending further proceedings before the Administrative Law Judge at the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Medical Disciplinary Board of the State of Illinois . A hearing has been scheduled for April 29, 2005.
