Illinois Regulators Suspend License of
Canton Registered Nurse
CHICAGO –The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation suspended the registered nursing license of Chad A. Smith. Jay Stewart, Director of the Division of Professional Regulation signed the summary suspension order late Tuesday afternoon. The department has the authority to temporarily suspend the license of professionals who it believes would pose an imminent danger to health and safety of patients or the general public.
Mr. Smith, according to records obtained during the IDFPR investigation, had been admitted to the Graham Hospital emergency room in May and again in July. During both visits he exhibited destructive behavior and tested positive for drugs and alcohol. His physician, Dr. Allen Savegnago, said in an affidavit, that it was his view that Mr. Smith needed rehabilitation and should not be permitted to practice.
Copies of the Complaint, Petition for Temporary Suspension and the Order are available below. Mr. Smith has the right to a hearing before an administrative law judge and the Medical Disciplinary Board. A hearing has been scheduled for September 6, 2012 in Chicago.
