Board of Licensing for Perfusionists

The Perfusionist Practice Act became effective January 1, 2000. A perfusionist is one who

operates the extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is

necessary to support or replace a person's cardiopulmonary, circulatory or respiratory

function. The Board of Licensing of Perfusionists is comprised of five persons appointed by

the Secretary consisting of two perfusionists, one cardiothoracic surgeon, one licensed

registered professional nurse certified by the association of Operating Room Nurses and one

public member. The Board advises the Secretary in matters of qualifications and

professional performance and conduct.
