CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has suspended the Doctor of Chiropractic license of Kevin R. McCarthy. Daniel E. Bluthardt, Director of the Division of Professional Regulation signed the summary suspension order after a hearing earlier today. The department has the authority to issue a summary suspension when it feels the health and safety of the public may be in danger by the continued practice of a doctor.
The Department received a citizen complaint about McCarthy in late June 2006 and after an investigation of that and other complaints, learned that McCarthy has been using crack cocaine for approximately two years. The Department’s petition outlines two counts against McCarthy: 1) he failed to provide medical records to a former patient, and 2) he admitted that he has used crack cocaine for approximately two years. The Department also detailed behavior that demonstrates he is impaired as a result of his substance abuse and mental illness. The Department ordered McCarthy’s license to be summarily suspended due to concerns about imminent danger to the health and public safety.
By the action taken today, McCarthy’s license is immediately suspended and he is not allowed to practice medicine in Illinois. Dr. McCarthy’s license is suspended pending further proceedings before the Medical Disciplinary Board of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. A hearing has been scheduled for August 17, 2005.
